Kaori’s Easy Recipe – Learn How to Make Pompompurin Pumpkin Tarts

12.May.2018 | FEATURES / FOOD

With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s recipe series! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.

For this recipe, you’ll learn how make mini Pompompurin pumpkin tarts! This is a simple recipe you can make with just a blender.

1: Ingredients

12 Tart shells

150g Pumpkin (deseeded, skin taken off and made soft)

50ml Fresh cream (In this recipe I used soy milk)

20-30g Sugar (Depending on the sweetness of the pumpkin)

1 Egg yolk (small egg)

Sliced Chocolate

Tinned yellow peach

2: Steam and make the pumpkin soft in the microwave. Place the softened pumpkin, sugar, fresh cream (or soy milk) and egg yolk into a blender.

3: Blitz until it’s mixed like in the photo above.

4: Pour the mixture from Step 3 into the tart shells and place into a 180℃ preheated oven. Lower the temperature to 140-150℃ and cook for 10-15 minutes. (You don’t want to brown anything, so we cook it on a low heat.)

If it looks like it’s about to start browning, cover with aluminium foil as this will prevent it from burning.

5: Once your cooked tarts have fully cooled down, use a round cutter to make a hat out of chocolate and a tear-drop cutter to make ears out of the yellow peach. The round ball on top of the hat can be made by breaking off some sliced chocolate and rolling it with your fingers.

Finally, drawn on the eyes, nose and mouth with a warmed chocolate pen!

The crunchy tart shells and moist pumpkin paste go pair together wonderfully! And the sourness from the yellow peach is perfect, making is really tasty♡

    ■How to make

②Put Sweet Potato Mix, milk, butter into the ball and mix them together.

(Put the butter in a heat-resistent container. Cover the container with cellophane wrap and heat it up in a microwave for 30〜40 seconds)

③Mix them with a spatula until it gets hard as shown in the picture above.

    ④First, make the face.

Each piece should be 30g. Roll it like a rice ball to make the surface smooth and shape it to a trapezoid-shape.

    ⑤Next, make the ears

Each piece should be 3g. Roll them and shape them into a water drop-shape.

    ⑥Make the hat.

The cloth should be 21g. Color it with cocoa powder. Roll each piece (3g) and shape them to dome shapes. Put the ear and hat on the face.

⑦After Purin-chan’s form is completed, coat it with egg yolk mixed with water so as to make the surface smooth. Use your fingers when coating it.

When coating it with egg yolk, put egg yolk on the location where the arrow indicates so that the pieces will not come off when it is baked.

⑧First, bake it for 5 minutes in the oven (180 degrees) and continue to bake it for another 5 minutes or until it is brown.(Watch it carefully in order to prevent it from burning.)

It will be completed when it looks like the piece shown in the picture.

    ⑨Write the face

☆Write the nose with melted chocolate using the flat side of a toothpick.

☆The nose of Purin-chan is shaped like a flipped triangle. Like this → ▽

☆Next, draw the eyes and mouth using a toothpick.

Use the pointed side of the toothpick when drawing the mouth. (Draw these parts carefully so that you do not rip the dough.)

☆Finally, to fix the hat on the head, use a fried pasta so that hat will be stabilized.(Check the last article for instructions about the pasta.)

    Coat the hat with chocolate.

    Finished!

  • Mogu Mogu Scarlett#2 Pom Pom Purin café in Harajuku!

    20.February.2017 | FEATURES / FOOD

Next up in the Mogu Mogu Scarlett series is the Pom Pom Purin café in Harajuku! Outside of Japan fellow Sanrio character Hello Kitty is the big name, but in Japan the
many Sanrio characters are all super popular.
In Tokyo there are lots of cafes themed around characters, TV series, pop groups and more, with everything from the food to the décor specially designed!
Inside the café you can readPom Pom Purin's story. He's a golden retriever, who was born on a sunny day. One day his owner decided to put a beret on him, and everyone said he looked like a pudding, which is how he got his name! The café is popular with many different customers, including many couples and foreigners!
The interior of the café is simply adorable. It is based around being in
Pom Pom Purin's house, so you can look into the various rooms in the house and see what his other food-themed friends, like Bagel,Scone and Macaron are getting up to! Merchandise is also available–my favourite was the Pom Pom Purin plushie with a knife and fork, so cute! The seats are heart shaped, and the hanging lamps even have Pom Pom Purin's face on them. And of course, you can see the famous dog himself at the centre of the café!
The Grand Menu recently changed on the 19th of December, with an all new selection to try. If you can't read Japanese don't worry –there are English and Chinese menus available. The most popular savoury course on the menu is the beef stroganoff, and the café recommendation is the fluffy soufflé omelette rice (omurice). So I decided to try these both out! The omurice came with a tasty white sauce in a special gift cup that you get to take home! It featured Pom Pom Purin with a
mushroom beret having an afternoon nap on a bed of yummy tomato sauce and
dreamy shaped vegetables –like a star and four leafed clover! The two sauces together really complemented each other and the omelette was so fluffy and delicious. I can understand why the beef stroganoff is so popular as it's very tasty and homely –featuring Pom Pom Purin shaped out of rice and a beef beret.
Chef Kubo-san told us that Pom Pom Purin's face is hand drawn on to every plate of food with sauce, and they make an extra effort to ensure they are all identical.
For dessert, the most popular item is the parfait, which has an actual pud
ding in it! I went for the
chef's recommendation –the"steam cloud" fruit tart. Ice cream Pom Pom Purin lies in the tart, that is made to look like an onsen, even with the onsen head towel on! The fruit was really refreshing, and the cream worked really well with the crumbly tart base. For those without the appetite for a dessert but wanting something sweet, there are also a range of creamy decorated yoghurt shakesand flavoured milk teas.
See you soon for the next Mogu Mogu Scarlett! If you haven't already, be sure to check out the previous article where I visited pancake heaven, Café Gram!

  • Kaori’s Easy Recipe – Learn How to Make “Rilakkuma Tear & Share Bread”

    29.April.2018 | FEATURES / FOOD

With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s recipe series! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.

In this recipe, you'll learn how to make cute tear & share bread of the character Rilakkuma!

First, you'll need to make a pack out of a milk carton for the mix later.

    1. Open up a milk carton that you have washed and cut it into a cylindrical shape.

    2. Staple together your pieces from Step 1.

    3. Now, staple them together into a square that measures about 10-12cm.

    4. Wrap with aluminium foil.

    ☆これを2つ作り型はOKです

    Now, onto making the bread!

    1: Ingredients

    240g strong flour

    5g dried yeast

    15g sugar

    3g salt

    5g cocoa powder

    60g unsalted butter

    1 egg

    75-80ml lukewarm water

2: Put the strong flour, dried yeast, salt and sugar into a bowl.

☆If the salt (塩) and yeast (イースト) are put side by side it will be difficult for the mix to rise to keep them separate.

Mix the lukewarm water and egg together.

Aim at the yeast and pour into the mix, then stir with a wooden spatula until it's no longer floury.

3: Take out the flour once it's at a point where it's no longer floury, add the unsalted butter and knead with your hands.

4: Once your dough in Step 3 is mixed together, split the mix in half, and roll one of those halves as it is into a ball. With the other half, mix it bit by bit with the cocoa powder that has been dissolved in the lukewarm water and shape into a ball. Leave them to rise for 40 minutes.

Once they have risen, divide both the plain mix and cocoa mix into 4 pieces (my pieces weighed 53g).

☆The amount of grams will change depending on the way you have kneaded it and the temperature, so it's better to divide them into 4 after having measured their weight.

Make ears from your 4 divided pieces (2g each).

Once you've finished diving each part, line them up like in the photograph to set aside for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, put them into the pack you made in the beginning.

☆Don't put on the ears yet.

Once they're in, leave them to rise again for another 30 minutes before on the ears.

5: Once you've completed everything in Step 4, place them into a preheated oven at 180℃ then lower the temperature to 150℃ and cook for about 7-minutes.

After that, so they don't take on a brown colour, take off the aluminium foil and cook for a further 10-minutes.

6: Leave to cool down completely, draw on the faces with a chocolate pen, and you're all done♡

In this recipe I made the bread with 2 different kinds of batter, but you can make it with just plain if you like and it'll be plenty kawaii.

If you wrap them with a ribbon they make a perfect present!

  • Kaori’s Easy Recipe – Learn How to Make “Duffy Cherry Blossom Jelly”

    14.April.2018 | FEATURES / FOOD

With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s recipe series! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.

For this recipe, you’ll learn how to make cute Duffy cookies with cherry blossom jelly, perfect for springtime!

    1: Ingredients
    ☆Annin Tofu
Daiso Annin Milk Purin 1 box
    Milk 400ml

    ☆Cherry Blossom Jelly
    Salted cherry blossoms 10 buds
    Water 200ml
    Sugar 1 tbsp
    Food colouring Just a little

    Gelatin 4-5g
    Water 15ml
☆Prepare the gelatin by dissolving in the water.

    ☆Cookie Dough
Please refer to my previous article where I made Hello Kitty sandwich cookies.
    https://www.moshimoshi-nippon.jp/39411
(For this recipe we’re making Duffy, so I mixed a little bit of brown food colouring into the dough)
★You can use anything as a substitute for the cookie shape.

2: After lightly rinsing the salted cherry blossom buds, soak them in water for 30 minutes to one hour to extract the salt.

3: Make the annin milk purin according to the instructions on the box.

4: Once the mix from step 3 has cooled down, transfer it into a vessel and store in the fridge to solidify.

5: Add a little bit of pink food colouring to the 200ml of water.
☆If you add the food colouring into the water while it’s in the pot you won’t know how deep the pink colour is due to the colour of the pot, so be sure to add it beforehand in a clear bowl or jug so you can gauge the colour.

6: Transfer the water in step 5 into a pot and add the sugar and salted cherry blossom buds from step 2. Once the sugar has melted well, add the gelatin that you dissolved in water. Mix well.

7: After checking that your mix from step 4 has solidified, pour your cooled down mix from step 6 on top and place in the fridge once more to solidify.

8: After cutting and shaping your cookie dough, use a knife to cut into the armpits as shown by the arrow.
☆When inserted into the glass it will deepen.

Once the cookie is cooked drawn the face on with a chocolate pen.
(Of course, you can leave it as it is too♡)

Once that’s done, top your jelly with the cookie!

  • Kaori’s easy recipe – How to Make Korilakkuma Scones

    25.March.2018 | FEATURES / FOOD

With just a small bit of ingenuity, turn everyday food into something cute using Kaori’s recipe series! With a few simple ideas, an ordinary recipe magically transforms into a cute dish.

With spring break on the horizon, let's make some scones from hot cake mix! In this article, you'll learn how to make "Korilakkuma Scones."

A lot of people have also asked to show the face-drawing process, so I'd like to include that this time too!

    1: Ingredients

    200g hot cake mix

    2tbsp vegetable oil

    2tbsp milk

    2tbsp fresh cream

☆You can use milk as a substitute if you don't have fresh cream.

☆If you add all of the milk and fresh cream and it seems difficult to mix, add a little more milk and fresh cream little by little.

2: Throw all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix.

3: After mixing, it's time to shape the face. At this point, after molding them into round balls, flatten the bottom part of the face.

☆"They look beautiful, they're all equal and uniform!" People have complimented me for that. When I'm making the shape, I plan it out and endeavour to create one shape across the board. After getting the quantity right with the ingredients, I think it's good to divide them all into individual pieces.

Scones are bumpy on the surface, so they're easy to mold♡

4: Next, attach the ears. For the ears, I used mix that I had separated for the face in step 3. Each ear uses 2g of mix, so take that and make them round.

5: Put them into a 180℃ pre-heated oven and lower the temperature to 130-140℃. Baked for 20-25 minutes.

Once they have colour on them, dash on some almond oil partway through the cooking.

They are fully baked in the photo above.

6: Now it's time to decorate the face. First, use a pink chocolate pen to squeeze onto the ears, and white for the mouth.

7: Then draw on the eyes. Try to maintain a balance between the left and right eye - make them line up.

8: Once the mouth you drew in step 6 has set, use a black chocolate pen to draw on a nose and the mouth details.

    All done♡

I also tried decorating it with a cherry blossom flower that I made with nerikiri dough to give it a springtime feel♡

There’s plenty more character-themed dishes on the way from Kaori! In the mean time, please check out her Instagram page where she has uploaded many pictures of her character dishes.
