i+Land Nagasaki is a new entertainment resort that will host its grand opening on July 18.
A former leisure facility, the establishment underwent a huge renewal and changed its name to i+Land Nagasaki on April 1, 2018. The new resort will host a huge line-up of activities including Island Lumina, which hails as Japan’s first interactive and immersive night walk, as well as yoga, SUP yoga, sea kayaking, and more. Select parts of the resort’s accommodation and restaurants have been revamped too.
Iojima is an easy location to being just 30 minutes by car from the city of Nagasaki (or 20 minutes from Nagasaki Port via boat).
i+Land Nagasaki covers a wide area and faces the sea. It’s split into four areas: the Port Area, Garden Area, Shimakaze Area and Lumina Area.
In the run up to the grand opening, the new seaside BBQ facility will open in the garden area on July 1 smack bang in the middle of the island and facing the sea. Food and amenities will already be prepared for guests so you can turn up empty-handed. There’s even outdoor tents meaning you can enjoy yourself even if it rains.
As well as each area having their own accommodation facilities, there’s also a restaurant, hot springs, a kid’s play area and more, all of which can be used by non-guests of the resort too. An array of activities are also scheduled to take place around the resort.
The huge recommendation at i+Land Nagasaki is Island Lumina which opened on April as Japan’s first ever experienced-based multimedia night walk. You’ll be transported into a mystical and romantic world that will pleasure all five of your senses.
Island Lumina was created by Moment Factory, a world-leading digital art group from Canada. It uses cutting-edge technology that combines light and music in a twilight forest environment. Those who enter the forest will be absorbed into an immersive story of a girl looking for a magical jewel.
You can take part in a bicycle excursion tour of Iojima―which stretches across 2.26km² of the island―that’ll around 1 hour. There’s also optional tours to go and see Hashima Island, now an abandoned island and World Heritage site, as well as Oura Church, another World Heritage Site, and more.
Take a strip to the new i+Land Nagasaki this summer and immerse yourself in nature.

Hoshinoya Tokyo, a traditional ryokan in Otemachi, has announced the New Year’s Kabuki Plan, a two-day, one-night stay from January 5 until January 7, 2023. During the Edo Period, citizens enjoyed watching Kabuki plays during the New Year’s holidays, often sipping tea at connected teahouses. This event will invite visitors to experience what this was like, complete with traditional food and decorations. Watching Kabuki was a chic way for those in Edo to ring in the new year. Theater teahouses were also a popular gathering place–along with arranging tickets, the teahouses offered plot notes, tea, sweets, boxed lunches, snacks, and other drinks.**Hiroshi Fujita, Yoshihide Tomizawa (2012) / The Updated Kabuki Dictionary, Kashiwa Shobo
Relax Before Enjoying Tea and a Play
Guests are invited to relax in the Ochanoma (Living Room) Lounge, decorated to look like a traditional teahouse with fans, ukiyo-e prints, and formal curtains. Hanabiramochi, or rice cakes with flower petals, will be served with green tea. These rice cakes are said to date back to the New Year’s tradition of eating hard foods like daikon and rice cakes in the hopes of prolonging one’s life. Characterized by its curious burdock root aroma, the cakes are sweetened with white miso bean paste. Enjoy a Post-Viewing Mont Blanc Shaped like Soba with Sweet Dessert Wine
At theater teahouses in the Edo period, sake, snacks, and desserts were served one after another. During this special event, a menu inspired by this practice and prepared by Hoshinoya Tokyo Executive Chef Noriyuki Hamada will be served! Soba noodles were often served after a play in the past. Inspired by this tradition, Mont Blanc made with chestnut paste and sponge cake will be served up to look like this popular dish. Paired with a dessert wine aged in oak barrels, the sweet will be served in a traditional lacquerware basket. In addition, the dish will be paired with Wasabi Pralines, Shichimi Meringue, and Ginger Pate de Fruits.Take a Rickshaw to the Kabuki-za Theater
Guests will be taken on an Edo-style tour on their way to the Kabuki-za Theater. Passing through the Nihonbashi area, the first stop will be the Fukutoku Shrine. It’s said that Hidetada Tokugawa paid a visit to and praised the shrine on New Year’s Day in 1614. The next shrine on the docket, Hodo Inari Jinja, was enshrined in Edo Castle during the Edo period to protect the heir to the Tokugawa family. It’s said that the shrine provides blessings for child rearing, matchmaking, and business prosperity. This tour will provide a more elegant way to explore Tokyo as guests enjoy exposition from their chauffeur. To make the rickshaw ride even more enjoyable, guests can rent kimonos for an extra charge. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has made waves around the world since performing at Coachella, one of the world’s largest music festivals, in April. Currently embarking on the second half of her 10th anniversary 31-show nationwide tour, the singer is gaining momentum as she aims for her solo concert at Nippon Budokan in October. As part of her tour, the singer has continued to energize Japan through the appeal of regional towns and cities with the LOCAL POWER JAPAN Project. At each tour location, the artist collaborates with a local company, creating special collaboration logos and products that have become the talk of social media. Details of Kyary’s collab project in Nagasaki have been revealed after the artist performed in the prefecture on July 18. In Nagasaki, the artist will collaborate with Hamburger Shop Hikari, a beloved local restaurant that originally opened in 1951. Sasebo burgers are well known in Japan, and all ingredients are sourced from Sasebo City in Nagasaki. These burgers are much larger than the burgers you may be used to and have become a local delicacy throughout the country. After the war, a U.S. military base was established in Sasebo. The recipe for the Sasebo burger is said to have originated from a recipe found on this base in the 1950s. The collaboration with Hamburger Shop Hikari, known as the origin of these famous burgers, pays tribute to Kyary’s new single Maybe Baby. The adorable visual shows a waitress at the shop delivering tasty burgers in a hurry.
A collaborative T-shirt is also on sale featuring the new logo and the singer’s 10th-anniversary logo. The shirt is available on the LOCAL POWER JAPAN Project website for two weeks only starting July 17, so grab one while you can. Information
