We first saw the male figure skating anime series Yuri!!! on Ice back in 2016. After much wait, fans will be pleased to hear that an anime movie is in the works. Titled Yuri!!! on Ice: Ice Adolescence, the film will be released sometime in 2019. In the meantime, the first visual has been teased.
The original series follows Yuri Katsuki, a competitive figure skater, and his coach Victor Nikiforov, a winner of five consecutive World Championships, as they aim for the gold medal of the Grand Prix Finals. The series was the world’s first anime to cover figure skating in such detail and the moment it aired it became a huge hit.
The DVDs & Blu-rays sold over 400,000 copies in Japan. The series won the 22nd AMD Awards, and won Anime of the Year at the 2017 Tokyo Anime Awards Festival as well as the Anime Fan Award. It was streamed with subtitles in 220 countries and became an instant global phenomenon. The official social media accounts of the series saw many followers from outside Japan. For example, 86% of the followers on the series’ Facebook account were from outside Japan. The series struck a chord not just with anime fans but real-life figure skaters too. It continues to maintain a dedicated fandom and the announcement of a new movie will relight that flame once more.
Japanese figure skater pair Miu Suzaki and Ryuichi Kihara performed choreography created by Benji Schwimmer to music from Yuri!!! on Ice at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games which caused a buzz amongst fans.
The newly unveiled visual teaser was drawn by Tadashi Hiramatsu and Tamura Seiki. There’s also a special movie using the picture than cab be watched on the movie’s official website. The video is narrated by Junichi Suwabe who voices Victor Nikiforov. The music was produced by Taro Umebayashi and Keisuke Tominaga (Piano).
There are plans to showcase the film outside Japan too. The story is currently ‘top secret.’
It’s time to get excited about Yuri!!! on Ice again. What could the ‘adolescence’ in the title mean?

LEGS COMPANY has revealed that it is opening a Yuri!!! on ICE and Sanrio fusion themed cafe called "Yuri on Ice x Sanrio Characters Cafe 2020" in Shibuya, Tokyo for a limited time from August 6, 2020.
Yuri!!! on ICE is a sports anime series centred on figure skating. It was produced by MAPPA and directed and written by Sayo Yamamoto together with Mitsurō Kubo. An event will take place at GALLERY X BY PARCO in Shibuya from June 15 to 24 for the international hit anime Yuri!!! on ICE with displays and merchandise focused around the cover illustrations of the series' CD releases.Yuri!!! on ICE (2016) is an anime series centred about figure skating.
