KAWAII MONSTER CAFE HARAJUKU Announces New Regular Drag Queen Show to Begin in October

The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku celebrated its 3rd anniversary on September 3, 2018 with a commemorative event.

 

The event saw special versions of their popular lunchtime and dinnertime show take place. Customers were entertained with a variety of shows including a burlesque night, a geisha show, a show by the restaurant’s iconic monster girls and more.

 

It was announced at the event that a new regular show would be introduced to the schedule which will take place on Friday every week. It was a very special one-night experience for guests both Japanese and those who had travelled from overseas.

KAWAII MONSTER CAFE holds numerous monthly events every week under its KMC SHOW CASE schedule for adults to have some late-night fun. For example, the ‘KAWAII Geisha Night’ which takes place every Tuesday and is hugely popular with foreign tourists, ‘TOKYO POP CULTURE NIGHT’ which it put on by the Monster Girls every Wednesday, and ‘Thursday Burlesque Night’ which sees sexy burlesque dancers singing and dancing.

 

The new regular show to enter the schedule this October is titled ‘GO-GO Friday’ which will be hosted by dragon queens.

A host of gorgeous dragon queens will perform dressed in fabulous outfits and invite guests into a fantastic and thrilling world.

 

The event also showcased a Tokyo 2020 themed selection of food which had that iconic KAWAII MONSTER CAFE twist. It included the TOKYO Roll Beef which is a vivid creation of five-coloured sushi rice topped with roast beef, Goshoku Tarts which are made with caviar, fruit and other ingredients, the Colourful Pop Burger “2020” and more.

The KAWAII MONSTER CAFE is now three years old and has served over 400,000 guests. As the number of foreign tourists to Japan continues to increase, the restaurant is sure to have more and more people enjoying Japanese nighttime in the run up to the Tokyo Olympics.

    The Harajuku-based brand KAWAII MONSTER CAFE has announced a traveling store, KAWAII MONSTER SHOP. As the project’s first event, a Halloween pop-up shop named ‘KAWAII MONSTER SHOP – Colorful Halloween’ will open for 10 days starting October 19 in the birthplace of the brand, Harajuku.

     

    KAWAII MONSTER CAFE is an entertainment restaurant that embodies the vibe of Harajuku in Tokyo, a town that swallows fashion and culture from places around the world and reimagines them into unrestrained originality. Originally opened in 2015 and produced by artist Sebastian Masuda, the colorful and crazy space offered photogenic food and drinks, and guests were served by the iconic Monster Girls clad in future Harajuku fashion. It became a ‘new Tokyo landmark,’ attracting over 700,000 visitors from both Japan and abroad. Even after the restaurant closed in January 2021, its one-of-a-kind concept has lived on in pop-up shops, events, and collaborations with various brands and creators.

     

    The pop-up shop, open in Harajuku for a limited time starting October 19, offers food and drinks, merchandise, special experiences, and photo spots themed around the spooky Halloween season. Additionally, a collaboration with the popular Harajuku accessory store 6%DOKIDOKI will be held from October 19-22. Colorful hair accessories will be on sale, and shop girls with Monster Girls makeup experience will be giving seasonal makeovers to visitors.

    During the first half of the event, the pop-up shop will be serving food made in collaboration with the hot dog specialty restaurant HOTDOG CAFE STAND STATION TOKYO. The limited-edition menu includes the crazy Monster Dog, consisting of a monster holding a sausage in its mouth, and the monstrous Philly Cheesesteak, made with juicy tenderloin and tons of cheese.

     

    The second half of the event will feature the Colorful Pop Burger Blue Monster (Teriyaki Chicken) from KAWAII MONSTER CAFE’s popular menu, along with French Fries with Monster Dip served with five different colorful sauces. Visitors are welcome to get into the Halloween spirit by enjoying the Monster Float during the pop-up event.

  • Harajuku’s KAWAII MONSTER CAFE Participates in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Season 2022 Event

    Jeddah Season 2022, a cultural entertainment festival in Saudi Arabia, ran from May 2 until July 2, 2022. During the festivities, a special collaboration concert event featuring MONSTER GIRL from KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Harajuku and RAM RIDER took place at the Anime Village area, an interactive event filled with popular Japanese IPs produced by Avex. 

     

    This was the first overseas collaboration with musician RAM RIDER, who worked to bring the world of KAWAII MONSTER CAFE to life. The audience was thrilled by this special set that included a stunning dance performance directed by content director Harris and a DJ set by RAM RIDER that included a variety of popular anime tracks. 

    KAWAII MONSTER CAFE was a popular Harajuku entertainment restaurant loved by tourists and locals alike. At Jeddah Season 2022, MONSTER GIRL’s presence took the audience by storm, and the performers strolled around the venue taking photos with fans.

    At the Anime Village, fans could engage with tons of popular Japanese IPs like Boruto, Captain Tsubasa, Godzilla, Pac-Man, and many more. For the first time in the Middle East, a giant Gundam diorama measuring approximately 6 meters was put on display. The entrance gate was inspired by the Kaminarimon gate in Asakusa, and visitors could enjoy Japanese food in a futuristic environment. 

     

    The Anime Village managed to bring Japanese culture to the people of Saudi Arabia, and hopefully, this incredible event will take place again in the near future.

    For visitors to Tokyo who love Japanese pop culture, the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE was a rite of passage. Opened in Harajuku in 2015 and produced by the Godfather of Kawaii himself Sebastian Masuda, the restaurant was a love letter to all things cute. Starting in February 2021, ASOBISYSTEM has taken over the operation of this beloved property. 

     

    Regrettably, due to the state of the world, KAWAII MONSTER CAFE HARAJUKU closed at the end of January 2021. However, the spirit of this colorful place isn’t dead, and a new concept and menu are now coming to fruition in Osaka!

  • YouTuber RinRin Doll Collaborates With Harajuku’s KAWAII MONSTER CAFE On New Drink

    Harajuku’s KAWAII MONSTER CAFE has announced that it is collaborating with YouTuber, model, and MC RinRin Doll to release a new beverage called “Honey Doll” which will be served at the cafe for a limited time only.

    Who is RinRin Doll?

    RinRin Doll is a Harajuku-style model based in Tokyo. Originally from Los Angeles, California, she is a lover of Japanese fashion and culture and posts videos related to Harajuku-style lolita fashion and makeup on her YouTube channel.

    RinRin’s birthday falls on August 2, which in Japanese can be pronounced as hanii or “honey,” and so this day is known colloquially as Honey Day. The “Honey Doll” drink will be served at the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE from August 2 to 31. It has a ginger ale base and is filled with honey flavoured jelly and fruits and is topped with purple cotton candy for a deliciously sweet combination.

    The first 15 people to order the drink will receive a special badge featuring the cute character “Honey Bunny Bee” who was created for the RinRin Doll & Ribbonita collaboration.

    KAWAII MONSTER CAFE opened its crazy doors on August 1, 2015. Since then, it has become an iconic must-visit spot of Tokyo’s youth fashion hub Harajuku, serving Harajuku-esque food, drinks, and desserts. And they haven’t held back on their colourful anniversary lunch either.

    KAWAII MONSTER CAFE HARAJUKU has announced MONSTER X, a new roster of characters who are like sisters to the cafe’s MONSTER GIRLS and are personifications of popular areas in the cafe: Mushroom Disco, Bar Experiment, and the Mel-Tea Room.

     

    The theme and decor of KAWAII MONSTER CAFE HARAJUKU imagines customers inside the belly of a monster. But this is no ordinary digestion, as customers are pulled into a crazy and vivid world of colours. The cafe is split into various areas where you’ll find the new MONSTER X girls: the colourful mushroom forest Mushroom Disco welcomes MUSH, the bewitching jellyfish Bar Experiment says hello to JELLY, and the candy-filled Mel-Tea Room beckons MELTY. Let’s take a look at who these MONSTER X girls are.

     

    MUSH

    MUSH’s theme is “Cheer.” Her dress and hairstyle is fitted with lots of round mushrooms. She’s here to cheer everybody up with the power of her vivid, Harajuku-esque colours.

  • Harajuku’s KAWAII MONSTER CAFE Begins Spring Fair ‘KAWAII×Sakura×Easter 2020’

    If you’ve never heard of the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE in Tokyo, then you’re going to want to visit by the time you see what they’re cooking up for spring.

     

    This year, the cafeーwhich is based on the idea of customers being inside the stomach of a giant monster that’s eaten Harajuku wholeーis holding a spring fair entitled “KAWAII×Sakura×Easter 2020” which is running from March 13 to April 26. The menu line-up incorporates elements of Japanese spring with a colourful Harajuku twist, from Easter to cherry blossoms.

    Colourful Pop Burger Cock-A-Doodle-Doo Monster – ¥1,680

    This new chicken monster burger is stuffed full of delicious goodness, including sukiyaki.

    Cherry Blossom Bloom Rice – ¥1,300

    The year is 2020, and spring has arrived in Japan. This Earth-inspired blue rice has cherry blossom coloured cheese fondue dolloped on top of it which is sat on a bed of black curry. The spicy curry has delicious burnt caramel inside it.

    Tropical Bibimbap – ¥1,200

    Bibimbap, the soul food of South Korea. This colourful version is topped with edible flowers and cherry blossom wheat-gluten bread, giving it that springtime feeling. The specially-made monster furikake gives the dish a real spicy kick.

    UFO Doughnut Pancakes – ¥1,200

    These chewy in-house made doughnuts are filled fat with strawberries, mikan, lemon mousse, and strawberry ice cream. Doughnut pancakes are the latest gourmet indulgence in Harajuku.

    Sakura Mousse Piyo Piyo Cake – ¥980

    Aka-chan is the name of this newborn monster chick, whose cute face is made from cherry blossom mousse.

    The Halloween season is almost upon us in Japan, where the spooky season’s festivities often begin a little earlier in October as cafes, restaurants and shops start serving up their own unique Halloween-themed menus.

     

    This year at the KAWAII MONSTER CAFE, the Monster Girls are inviting you to their kaleidoscopic Halloween party. From vampires to werewolves, Frankenstein’s monster and beyond, prepare to encounter a Halloween like no other with a line-up of colourful dishes.

    Colourful Pop Burger: Frankenstein’s Monster – ¥1,580 (Before Tax)

    The cafe’s mascot character Mr. Choppy has been turned into Frankenstein’s monster! This fat and juicy burger is filled with salsa sauce and melted cheese. Even the bun is cute and colourful too!

    Choppy Baron’s Dark Curry – ¥1,400 (Before Tax)

    This time, Mr. Choppy has turned into a vampire for this pitch-black curry, laced with other Halloween colours too like purple and orange. This vivid plate isn’t just tasty, its appearance has life to it too.

    This surreal dish is a giant breaded coffin filled with gratin, rainbow-coloured cheese, and white sauce. Surrounding it are bats, eyeballs, and gravestones.

    This adorable wolf dessert appeared during a full moon. It includes a crunchy doughnut on top of which is sat a sweet black sesame mousse werewolf.
