Japanese pop rock band Mr.Children celebrated their 25th anniversary last year with their “Thanksgiving 25” tour―their biggest to date―which saw them perform to 700,000 fans at stadiums and domes across the whole of Japan.
The band just released their new album Juryoku to Kokyu on October 3 and dropped three music videos simultaneously.
The new album features a total of 10 tracks including himawari which was used as the main theme for the Japanese movie Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, as well as here comes my lovewhich was the main theme for the drama series Residential Complex, SINGLES which was also the theme for a drama series titled Hagetaka, and Hifu Kokyu which was used for Docomo’s 25th anniversary campaign commercial and at the time was dubbed “TBA DEMO.”
The record is described as having the band’s very existence etched it more than any other album before it, the band’s passion directly laced to the music. It showstheir avid desire to create music and a sprint towards something new, transcending their current state as a rock band.
Mr.Children – “Your Song” Music Video
The three music videos that have been released together with the album include the full music video for Your Song, a video for Your Song (Original Story) and a short version of the music video for for SINGLES. All tracks are new songs.

Mr.Children「SINGLES」MV(Short ver.)
The music videos for Your Song (Original Story) and SINGLES were directed by acclaimed Japanese film director Kyotaro Hayashi whose concept for the videos was to create a drama-like setting between young people with the cityscape in the background. The first video features actor Kento Hayashi and actress Honoka Murakami and the second Kai Inowaki and Jun Yoshinaga respectively.
Mr.Children will embark on their tour Mr.Children Tour 2018-19 Juryoku to Kokyu which will begin at Hiroshima Green Arena on October 6. The 25-date tour will take the band to 13 locations which includes their first ever overseas solo concert that will take place at Taipei Arena in Taiwan.
The band’s vocalist Kazutoshi Sakurai commented:
“We moved towards creating an album with passion, like one that would make our junior musicians want to quit music, or one with an overwhelming sound that would make us something to aim for. I think that’s exactly the kind of music we’ve created. Please definitely give it a listen!!!”
Mr.Children’s new album shows that even 25 years on they continue to hold that presence of a rock band in their hearts and have an unshaken passion, yearning, love and impulse towards music. Be sure to check out the new music videos.
