Three cafes themed on the popular LINE stamp character Usamaru opened in Harajuku, Umeda and Nagoya on November 2. The cafes are now taking limited reservations for a special Christmas course and pair seats.
Projection mapping is used on the table in collaboration with Sony Japan’s latest technology. Once your meal is placed on the table characters will appear in front of you and perform animations.
The animations are synced to whichever item you pick on the menu whether it be Christmas cake, non-alcoholic sparkling wine or something else. Customers can purchase a meal plan that features special Christmas projection mapping along with a special Christmas course.
Those who do make a reservation will receive the pair of original acrylic coasters pictured above.
Customers will also receive an original lunch mat upon entry selected randomly from a possible 4 designs.
There are also stickers, muddlers and more to get your hands on, so be sure to roll up to the Usamaru Cafe this holiday season.

Lotte will release the popular cookies and cream flavour in its Yukimi Daifuku ice cream line on September 17. The company is teaming up with the LINE sticker character Usamaru for the product this year. Usamaru is a very popular rabbit character on the Japanese messaging app LINE who was created by illustrator sakumaru. The LINE CREATORS SHOP is a new permanent store for that will open along Tokyo Character Street in Tokyo Station Ichibangai on October 25.
LINE Creators are those who create their own stamps which are sold on the LINE Creators Market to be used on LINE, a messenger app in Japan similar to WhatsApp. Many characters have become popular through this service including Butata, Plump Dog & Plump Cat, Penguin and Cat Days, Love Mode, not to mention Usamaru. More recently, these popular characters have even gotten their own stuffed toys and stationary and have partnered up with certain projectors. Usamaru is particularly loved having won the top prize at the LINE Creators Stamp Awards. He drew much attention recently for collaborating with the Yukimi Daifuku ice cream brand. The LINE CREATORS SHOP will be home to merchandise from the most popular LINE Creators. It will open along Tokyo Character Street in Tokyo Station's shopping complex Ichibangai. Popular LINE stamp character Usamaru is getting his very own themed cafes in Tokyo (Harajuku), Osaka (Umeda) and Aichi (Nagoya) which will open sequentially from November 2.
The food menu includes curry, a cheese fondue set and shortcake amongst other delicious treats, all of which include Usamaru motifs. Drinks include a hot berry chocolate, hot cafe latte and hot matcha latte to warm you up for the coming cold winter. Those who book a table at the cafe will receive one of three possible microfiber clothes chosen randomly as shown in the left picture above. Upon arrival, you will also receive one of four possible lunch mats as shown in the picture on the right above. A special Christmas course will also be served during the Christmas season. Bookings for this begin on November 15. Some of the tables at the cafe will also make use of projection mapping in collaboration with Sony Japan's latest technology. The Mine City Tourism Association has announced a Christmas & Valentine’s Day event at Akiyoshido Cave, one of the largest limestone caves in Japan. The event will see the natural wonder illuminated by a number of colorful lights. The Christmas event will run from December 21 to 25, 2022, while the Valentine’s Day event will run from February 10 to 14, 2023. Akiyoshido Cave is one of Yamaguchi Prefecture’s most popular tourist attractions. The interior will be decorated with colorful lights and unique soundscapes, creating a once-in-a-lifetime setting for visitors. These illuminations and sounds were directed by world-renowned lighting designer Motoko Ishii, known for her work on Tokyo Tower and the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge.

To celebrate the return of Urusei Yatsura after 36 long years, a themed cafe will be coming to four cities in Japan for a limited time! The first cafe will open on December 1, 2022. Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi that ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1978 until 1987. An anime series aired in 1981 and became a massive hit with audiences, and understandably, it is still loved by anime and manga fans today. The cafe features newly-drawn illustrations of six main characters including Ataru Moroboshi, Lum, and Ten.
