Character cafés are an exciting experience in Japan which sees a café collaborate with well-known anime series, game series and various franchises by decorating the café interior with designs and illustrations based on them and meals and drinks inspired by them.

Four Christmas food items have arrived to the Yokohama and Nagoya branches of the Pompompurin Café, two of which are collaborations between Pompompurin and Gudetama! One of these is the “Purin Santa & Gude Reindeer’s Xmas Beef Tongue Stew” which has been delivered to warm up both your heart and stomach this Christmas. Over at the Gudetama Café in Umeda, Osaka they are serving up a collaborative menu with the popular Sanrio character Tuxedosam. On the menu customers can look forward to tucking into a white stew featuring a Santa Tuxedosam sleeping under a fluffy Gudetama omelette. For dessert there are Gudetama pancakes crowned with ramune flavoured Tuxedosam sherbet. The sweet and sour mix of the colourful fruits and berry sauce match perfectly. Having already shown off the first line-up of Christmas food at the Harajuku and Umeda branches, the Pompompurin Café has unveiled an all-new cute Christmas menu arriving to the Yokohama and Nagoya branches on December 1.
Purin Santa & Gude Reindeer’s Xmas Beef Tongue Stew: ¥1,490 (Pre-Tax)
Warming up both your heart and stomach this Christmas is a slowly cooked beef tongue stew which is topped cutely with our favourite Pompompurin who is wearing a Santa hat made from a walleye pollack roe mashed potato. Gift Giving♪ Chimney Honey Toast: ¥1,290 (Pre-Tax)
For dessert, you can look forward to tucking into a danish spread with honey butter and made to look like a chimney. On top of that is Pompompurin Claus made from vanilla ice and next to him Gudetama’s marshmallow butt. It is all sat on top of a French floating island dessert inspired by Santa’s present sack and served with an anglaise sauce which is best enjoyed together with the danish.

Wrapping up the Christmas dessert menu is this tiramisu parfait which combines chocolate sponge cake and espresso. It’s topped with tiramisu cream and decorated with vanilla ice cream Pompompurin, gateau chocolate, ladyfingers, fruits and more.
Of course, there’s exclusive Christmas themed merchandise to get your hands on too at the Yokohama and Nagoya branches. Those who dine at the café will receive the above original lunch mat and postcard.

Three cafes themed on the popular LINE stamp character Usamaru opened in Harajuku, Umeda and Nagoya on November 2. The cafes are now taking limited reservations for a special Christmas course and pair seats.
Projection mapping is used on the table in collaboration with Sony Japan’s latest technology. Once your meal is placed on the table characters will appear in front of you and perform animations.
The animations are synced to whichever item you pick on the menu whether it be Christmas cake, non-alcoholic sparkling wine or something else. Customers can purchase a meal plan that features special Christmas projection mapping along with a special Christmas course.
Those who do make a reservation will receive the pair of original acrylic coasters pictured above.
Customers will also receive an original lunch mat upon entry selected randomly from a possible 4 designs.

To celebrate the return of Urusei Yatsura after 36 long years, a themed cafe will be coming to four cities in Japan for a limited time! The first cafe will open on December 1, 2022.
Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi that ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1978 until 1987. An anime series aired in 1981 and became a massive hit with audiences, and understandably, it is still loved by anime and manga fans today.

The second Tabekko Doubutsu Cafe Stand event opened in Omotesando on November 1, 2022. Paying homage to the classic snack first released in 1978, the cafe features a number of tasty snacks inspired by the thin animal-shaped cookies popular around the world.
This second event will run through January 9, 2023. Reservations are required, and many dates were completely sold out prior to the event’s start date, particularly on weekends. We decided to visit, anxious to see what the fuss is all about.
We were first shocked to see the popular animals enjoying oden! Original goods featuring the characters enjoying the quintessential Japanese winter dish are only available at the cafe. From acrylic keychains to figures, visitors can snag some adorable merchandise to commemorate their trip to the exclusive event. Why not snag some items that would be useful on a daily basis, like a notebook or an apron?
For food, visitors can snag a special Oden Set and Chinese Dumplings, both perfect for the winter. The oden features popular ingredients like egg, daikon, fish cake, and mochikinchaku, each branded with the popular animal characters. Drinks include soy milk, green tea milk, and milk tea.
In addition to the exclusive Lion Cake which is limited to 25 servings a day, guests can find chocolate bananas and other sweets on the menu, including a Sweets Set limited to those reserving special seats at the venue. For every ¥1,000 spent on food and drink items, customers will receive one Tabekko Doubutsu trading card!
The exhibition space is a must-see for fans of this legendary snack, filled with rare works including an adorable and very colorful print of every animal holding a bowl of oden. Of course, a photo spot has been set up for visitors to take some prime shots for social media!

From November 11 until December 15, Capcom Cafe AEON LakeTown and the Ikebukuro branch will hold a collaboration with the mobile game Stand My Heroes. Fans of the title will find a special collaboration menu and a selection of new merchandise for sale.
The details of the limited-edition goods and menu items have been revealed, and reservations are now open.

In addition to standard items like clear folders and keychains, fans can also find blankets and mask pouches decorated with original illustrations by Capcom Cafe.

A collaboration cafe and pop-up shop inspired by the popular anime series Tokyo Revengers will open again this year following a successful run in 2021. The event will be held on the fourth floor of Tokyo Solamachi from November 3 until December 2, 2022.
Collaboration Merch
The collaboration will feature a variety of limited-edition goods with new designs based on the theme of the ‘backstreets.’ The lineup includes acrylic stands, clear folders, and plenty more. Special Baji birthday goods will also be available on November 3!
Collaboration Menu
The popular collaboration menu features food items inspired by the show’s characters, and guests will be able to enjoy everything from curry and yakisoba to pancakes and crepes. Even if you’re not hungry, you can still grab a drink!

A pop-up collaboration cafe for the popular anime series NARUTO and BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS, has been announced! The event will be held from October 29 until November 25 on the fourth floor of Tokyo Solamachi.
Original Merchandise & Cafe Menu
There will also be a large collection of new merchandise featuring brand new illustrations for fans so snag. Along with acrylic keychains and pins, printed cookies, T-shirts, and towels will also be available!
At the collaboration cafe, fans can enjoy a lineup of dishes inspired by popular characters from both series, including Boruto’s Spiral Burger, Sasuke’s Stew, and Sasori’s Puppet Pancakes. A full dessert and drink menu will also be available for fans wanting to try dishes like Sakura’s Life-Long Love Parfait and Itachi’s Tsukiyomi Chocolate. A total of eight original coasters will be available, and one will be handed out with each dish ordered.
Sasori’s Birthday Project
The event will also celebrate Sasori’s birthday from November 8 until November 13. Guests can enjoy a special pancake set featuring the popular character along with a festive birthday decoration!

Crayon Shin-chan’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition will be held at Ikebukuro Sunshine City starting December 17, 2022. Humorously titled The Adventure in Ass Wonderland, the interactive exhibition will pay homage to the past three decades of the beloved anime series. In conjunction with the event, a key visual drawn especially for this exhibition has also been unveiled.
This special exhibition looking back on the 30th anniversary of the anime series and films will feature many hands-on Crayon Shin-chan projects based on the theme of Shinnosuke’s butt. More details will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
Advance tickets for the exhibition will be on sale starting November 17, 2022. The exhibition is also scheduled to travel to other venues in Japan beginning in 2023. See the official website for more information.

Fans of the Sound! Euphonium anime will want to visit Hotel Keihan Kyoto Grande from September 23 until November 20, 2022! The second-floor restaurant Octava will be holding a special collaboration cafe with the series in conjunction with the Keihan Electric Railway.
