Touken Ranbu is a free-to-play online collectable card video game developed by Nitro+ (Steins;Gate, 2015) for internet browsers. Since its release in 2015 it has received two anime adaptations, a musical and stage play. A live-action adaptation was announced earlier this year which will release on January 18, 2019.
An early screening of the movie has been announced for December 27 where the entire weapon-wielding cast will make an appearance including Hiroki Suzuki, who plays the protagonist, as well as Yoshihiko Aramaki, Ryō Kitamura, Masanari Wada, Hiroaki Iwanaga, Fuuma Sadamoto, Taizou Shiina and Tomoki Hirose. Tickets to the premiere can be found on the official website.
The visuals of the third batch of cards that come with movie tickets have also been unveiled. They will be sold from December 14. The first batch included the characters Mikazuki Munechika, Nihongou and Uguisumaru while the second set featured Yamanbagiri Kunihiro and Heshikiri Hasebe. The third set includes Yagen Toushirou and Fudou Yukimitsu.

The film is being directed by up-and-coming movie creator Saiji Yakumo and written by Yasuko Kobayashi who has worked on anime series and special effects films. Cast that have already been announced include Hiroki Suzuki (Mikazuki Munechika), Yoshihiko Aramaki (Yamanbagiri Kunihiro) and Ryō Kitamura (Yagen Toushirou), young actors who are making a name for themselves in the theatre industry. The two new actors added to the cast are Koji Yamamoto, who will play the role of Oda Nobunaga, and Norito Yashima, who will play the role of Yamamoto will play the role of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The newly-revealed poster features Hiroki Suzuki as Mikazuki Munechika alongside the other swordsmen with a castle covered by smoke and fire in the background, foreshadowing a violent and epic story. Super popular sword simulation game Touken Ranbu-ONLINE- will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of its 2.5D stage show with a special exhibition, held at Ikebukuro PARCO Factory between September 10 and 27, 2021. A travelling exhibition is also scheduled to visit Nagoya and Shinsaibashi.
