Pop Team Epic is set to collaborate with Sanrio’s cast of characters at a limited time themed cafe at Dining Park Ikebukuro which is located on the 8th floor of Seibu Ikebukro. It will run from February 7, 2019 to April 14, 2019.
Pop Team Epic is a four-panel surreal comedy manga written and illustrated by Bkub Okawa. It received a 12-episode series which received much love outside of Japan making it onto Crunchyroll and even Toonami in the US.
Witness Popuko and Pipimi join hands with Hello Kitty, Pompompurin and other Sanrio characters with a line-up of inspired food, desserts, drinks and exclusive merchandise.

Enjoy a hearty bowl of noodles topped with a soft boiled egg Popuko that’s served with a spicy black sesame tan tan soup made to look like Badtz-Maru. It may look funny but the flavour combinations of the egg and soup make for a delicious meal.

Popuko and Pipimi are looking adorable in their Hello Kitty buns. Popuko is made from galantine style meat and a wrapped in a lightly fried egg while Pipimi is made of mashed potato.

This spicy mapo tofu is topped with a giant Tabo rice ball (which contains a meatball) and another soft boiled egg Popuko. They seem to be getting on pretty well!

In this dish Pipimi’s face is made from sweet boiled corn. It comes with pancakes packed with berries and Pompompurin custard cream sauce.
Kuromi Pipimi & Popuko Black Purin Crepe: ¥1,190 (Before Tax)
Pipimi has transformed into Kuromi from the Sanrio cast. She is made from a black coffee flavoured purin. Popuko is also dressed as My Melody. The dessert comes with berry sauce, chocolate whipped cream and a crepe.

These 3 drinks drink come with a tube-shaped fish-paste cake straw and a wafer cake that has Popuko, Kiki and Lala illustrated on it.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Rilakkuma and his adorable friends, the Rilakkuma 20th Anniversary Cafe will open in Omotesando, Tokyo from March 9 until April 16, 2023. To celebrate the return of Urusei Yatsura after 36 long years, a themed cafe will be coming to four cities in Japan for a limited time! The first cafe will open on December 1, 2022. Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi that ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1978 until 1987. An anime series aired in 1981 and became a massive hit with audiences, and understandably, it is still loved by anime and manga fans today. The cafe features newly-drawn illustrations of six main characters including Ataru Moroboshi, Lum, and Ten.

The Metaverse event that was a smash hit in 2021 will be returning in 2023! Sanrio Virtual Festival 2023 in Sanrio Puroland, one of the world’s largest music festivals blending both the real and virtual worlds, will be held starting January 13, 2023. A lineup of high-profile performers has been announced, including Airi Suzuki, SKY-HI, Yabai T-Shirts Yasan, and Aoi Fuji. Popular Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi will also appear, and visitors will be able to experience the virtual Puroland by utilizing unique avatars and taking part in a number of exciting events. The 2021 event was incredibly popular, and the 2023 version will increase the duration and amount of content available. To do this, Puroland has joined forces with VRChat, a well-known US company and social platform. Artists, VTubers, and Sanrio characters will perform in a massive space on B5 of Virtual Sanrio Puroland, and fans can enjoy live performances while also communicating with other guests!

60th Anniversary Sanrio Exhibition: The Beginning of Kawaii to Open at Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in February 2023
The word ‘kawaii’ is now commonly used around the world. Sanrio is largely to thank for this, and the beloved company has announced that the 60th Anniversary Sanrio Exhibition will open at the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art from February 11 until April 2, 2023. Advance tickets will include a discount and will be available until November 14 online. “Sanrio celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2020, and the company continues to share Japan’s character culture with fans around the world,” Sanrio said in a comment. “Kawaii is now a universal language, and this is very much thanks to the over 450 characters that are part of Sanrio’s history, from Hello Kitty to My Melody. The second Tabekko Doubutsu Cafe Stand event opened in Omotesando on November 1, 2022. Paying homage to the classic snack first released in 1978, the cafe features a number of tasty snacks inspired by the thin animal-shaped cookies popular around the world. This second event will run through January 9, 2023. Reservations are required, and many dates were completely sold out prior to the event’s start date, particularly on weekends. We decided to visit, anxious to see what the fuss is all about.
We were first shocked to see the popular animals enjoying oden! Original goods featuring the characters enjoying the quintessential Japanese winter dish are only available at the cafe. From acrylic keychains to figures, visitors can snag some adorable merchandise to commemorate their trip to the exclusive event. Why not snag some items that would be useful on a daily basis, like a notebook or an apron? For food, visitors can snag a special Oden Set and Chinese Dumplings, both perfect for the winter. The oden features popular ingredients like egg, daikon, fish cake, and mochikinchaku, each branded with the popular animal characters. Drinks include soy milk, green tea milk, and milk tea. In addition to the exclusive Lion Cake which is limited to 25 servings a day, guests can find chocolate bananas and other sweets on the menu, including a Sweets Set limited to those reserving special seats at the venue. For every ¥1,000 spent on food and drink items, customers will receive one Tabekko Doubutsu trading card! The exhibition space is a must-see for fans of this legendary snack, filled with rare works including an adorable and very colorful print of every animal holding a bowl of oden.
