Additional Cast Announced For Upcoming Film ‘Diner’

06.June.2019 | MOVIE

Diner is an upcoming film adaptation of author and horror writer Yumeaki Hirayama’s 2009 novel Diner directed by Mika Ninagawa.

The film features an all-star cast including Tatsuya Fujiwara, Masataka Kubota, Kanata Hongō, Shinji Takeda, Takumi Saitoh, Eriko Sato and Nobuaki Kaneko, as well as huge Japanese film industry names Shun Oguri, Anna Tsuchiya, Miki Maya and Eiji Okuda. Everyone will play the role of killers with colourful personalities.

In addition to the already-announced incredible cast list, a newly-released image reveals even more names that have been added to the fray, creating a line-up that is sure to make anyone double-take.

In the top left we have singer and actress Rina Kawaei playing a black-haired girl donning a pink outfit. This character works at the travel agency Kanako visits just before she is sold to the Diner. She scoffs upon seeing Kanako’s name at the Diner.

Next we have KOM_I, the vocalist of Japanese group Wednesday Campanella, glancing a listless expression behind a copy of Moby Dick. She will appear in a very important scene that unveils a shocking truth.

We also have singer-songwriter and actress Tomomi Itano who plays a weather reporter that Kanako will see on TV as well as actress Yoshino Kimura who appears in a black-and-white photograph. Though she only appears in photograph form, she is significant as she is the deceased mother of one of the killers in the Diner: Sukin. He always carries this photo of his mother with him to keep the precious memories he had with her alive.

Kazue Tsunogae plays Kanako’s grandmother who looks after Kanako after she is abandoned by her parents. Her kind and warm grandmother is the one who taught her the only skill she is good at: cooking.

The face leaving the biggest impact from the photograph however is Toru Shinagawa. He is the only character from the image that will be a customer at the Diner.

Diner will be released in Japan on July 5, 2019.

  • New ‘Diner’ Film Trailer Focuses On Sadistic Master Chef Bombero

    31.May.2019 | MOVIE

A new trailer has just been released centred on the character Bombero (Tatsuya Fujiwara).
Tatsuya Fujiwara maintains a strong presence in the Japanese film industry as the characters he has played in his filmography to now have all stood out for their unique personalities. Bombero is no exception. Bombero is an unhinged master chef and "king" of the diner in which the film takes place who controls everything that happens there. All of his customers are psychotic killers. In the trailer the abnormal Bombero spits out countless lines all delivered with a cold, expressionless face: "You cannot escape from here," "Can you work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without a break?," "Will you play by my rules?" We also see Kanako Ooba (Tina Tamashiro), a girl who is sold to the diner, have her head forced into the toilet Bombero who commands her to lick it. It's clear to see those who are under Bombero's roof have two options: obey or die. But we also see how serious this sadist is when it comes to cooking, as well as a scene where he is alone holding a gun and looking concerned. Japan's best killers are set to feast at the Diner, with Kanako, an ordinary person, the only one there who isn't a murderer. What will happen when the lot of them get together, and what is Bombero true objective?   Diner will be released in Japan on July 5, 2019.   ©2019 “Diner” Production Committee ©2019  Mika Ninagawa / “Diner” Production Committee
  • Senkyakubanrai by DAOKO X MIYAVI Unveiled as Theme Song For Sensational Movie ‘Diner’

    16.May.2019 | MOVIE / MUSIC

Diner is an upcoming film adaptation of author and horror writer Yumeaki Hirayama’s 2009 novel Diner directed by Mika Ninagawa and starring Tatsuya Fujiwara ー a dream tag team! The novel was said to be so good that it cannot be made into a movie...however, it was!  The movie features the fabulous actors and actresses Kanata Hongo, Masataka Kubota, Shinji Takeda, Takumi Saitoh, Eriko Sato and Nobuaki Kaneko as well as Shun Oguri, Anna Tsuchiya, Miki Maya and Eiji Okuda. For this movie, they are all playing the role of contract killers. This non-stop action film is all about pushing your instincts to the max. The movie will be released on Friday 5th July 2019. The main theme song for the film Senkyakubanrai by DAOKO X MIYAVI can be previewed in the trailer which has finally gone public!
Last year, guitarist MIYAVI finished up his 7th world tour "DAY 2" World Tour 2018. The tour started in Tokyo and took place in a number of Japan's cities, finally hitting up Seoul, Singapore, Taiwan, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, and even Europe, Russia, the US, as well as Central and South America! The release of his album SAMURAI SESSIONS vol.3 last year in December also became very popular. Recently, he was recruited by fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and Y-3 to take part in the worldwide advertising campaign Moncler BEYOND as a model. These are just a few examples of the many varieties of collaborations that have made MIYAVI so famous. Now, he has even created a song with DAOKO!   Rap singer DAOKO and guitarist MIYAVI's new song Senkyakubanrai will be available for digital download and on streaming services from 3rd July!   The passionate samurai spirit of guitarist MIYAVI combined with the enthusiastic rapper DAOKO is no doubt a collaboration that will reverberate throughout the entire country, sending ripples of passion through Japan. You just can't take your eyes off DAOKO and MIYAVI for a minute!A statement by director Mika NinagawaAn absolute dream come true. I am so thrilled. I've always been a fan of DAOKO and MIYAVI separately. One day, I was on the way to the set for the filming of the movie Diner, and I heard their song play. I thought to myself; wouldn't it be wonderful if we could work together someday? I then thought, wouldn't it just be amazing if I could put those two in charge of the opening theme song for the movie! After that thought was in my head, I didn't even think of considering anyone else. I asked them immediately and it's actually happening. I just can't express how happy I am.   Statement by DAOKOI wanted to portray the 1v1 battle between the main characters Bombero and Kaneko in song form somehow. I was thinking of how to do this with MIYAVI when the idea crossed my mind! I challenged myself to keep to my rapping flow but to sing in a style to reflect the stubborn, strong-willed female role of Kaneko. I got really close to her personality through the lyrics and challenged myself with full power!   Statement by MIYAVICreating a song that perfectly describes Mika Ninagawa's perspective was key. I thought about making something to reflect the static relationship between Bombero and Kaneko, and so I took the concept of pushing away and coming close together and worked around that. The time difference between Tokyo and Los Angeles made things a bit difficult  but DAOKO putting her heart into the lyrics really helped. I can't wait for the world to be shaken when our song along with the film are finally released!    ©2019 “Diner” Production Committee ©2019  Mika Ninagawa / “Diner” Production Committee
  • New ‘Diner’ Trailer Reveals New Story & Character Details

    25.April.2019 | MOVIE

Diner is an upcoming film adaptation of author and horror writer Yumeaki Hirayama's 2009 novel Diner directed by Mika Ninagawa and starring Tatsuya Fujiwara.   It will star Masataka Kubota, Kanata Hongō, Shinji Takeda, Takumi Saitoh, Eriko Sato and Nobuaki Kaneko, as well as huge Japanese film industry names Shun Oguri, Anna Tsuchiya, Miki Maya and Eiji Okuda. Everyone will play the role of killers with colourful personalities. The film's official Twitter page teased the date "April 25" with a hashtag translating to "visiting a killer's store" from April 18 to 24. The date has finally come around, and the big reveal is a brand new trailer and poster.   "Diner" Trailer
In the chaotic trailer, we get to see master chef and "king" of the diner Bombero (Tatsuya Fujiwara) his customers, all of whom are psychotic killers. This includes Skin (Masataka Kubota), an aloof murderer whose face is covered in scars who we see firing a machine gun, and Psycho Killer Kid (Kanata Hongō) who we see spurting blood while stabbing someone with pencils. We also see organisation leader Mateba (Shun Oguri) eating a stag beetle, as well as Maria (Anna Tsuchiya), Bureizu (Miki Maya) and Kofi (Eiji Okuda) gathered together for the banquet. Other characters in the trailer include the Spanish-speaking Buro (Shinji Takeda), Cowboy (Takumi Saitoh) slamming a car, Dee Dee (Eriko Sato), and the masked Buta Otoko (Nobuaki Kaneko). The standout from the trailer however is Tatsuya Fujiwara's performance of Bombero. Who, or what was he about to hack down at the end when he leaps into the air?   Under the direction of Mika Ninagawa, we can expect an extravagant and over-the-top killer game the likes of which we have never seen before. Speaking about playing Bombero, Fujiwara joked, "First of all, you should never place a lethal weapon in my hands!"   He also commented on the other characters: "I though Bombero was the most normal of them all! The other characters are way too dark! Everyone is crazier than me [laughs]." He continues: "The only actors we have here are those with serious talent [...] It was a rigorous film shoot, but to that extent the scenes are well worth seeing."   He concludes, "We have made a completely new and original film, one where you can't predict what's going to happen." The trailer also reveals that Japanese actress and model Tina Tamashiro will play the role of Kanako Ooba, a girl who is sold to the diner.   Excitement continues to build in the run up to the release of Diner in Japan on July 5, 2019.   ©2019 "Diner" Production Committee ©2019  Mika Ninagawa / "Diner" Production Committee
