As part of the “Gundam vs. Hello Kitty Project,” both franchises are set to get their very own puzzle games at Tokyo Mystery Circus on July 18.
The Mobile Suit Gundam game, titled Gundam Kidou Sakusen (“Gundam Tactics Activate”), will see you seeking to finish building a Gundam while avoiding being attacked by the Principality of Zeon. Using AR technology, complete your mission together with Amuro Ray.
The Hello Kitty game, titled “Hello Kitty’s Night Museum,” follows a string of themes following the history of the character from when she was born to today and in the future. Using Tokyo Mystery Circus’s puzzle-solving book, you will traverse through the Night Museum and complete numerous stories. You will hear voice messages from Hello Kitty herself, there will be a popcorn machine, illustrations of Hello Kitty by popular manga author Arina Tanemura, and more.
A campaign will also run which will determine who the winner will be between Hello Kitty and Gundam. This will be decided depending on the amount of clears of each respective event. The number of votes will be displayed at Tokyo Mystery Circus. A themed menu will also be served.

Toho and AlphaBoat have announced the second run of their video audition project "GEMSTONE" which is open to creators around the world, from animators to illustrators, composers, singers, actors and actresses, and beyond.The first round was held in Japan only and asked for illustrations and videos themed on "Godzilla." Of the 1,000 people who participated, 11 were chosen as winners, all of whom are now undertaking work alongside the production team at Toho. The key visual for the new second round was illustrated by YELLOW JUNKIE/kyo→ko, one of the winners of the first audition.
For the second round, Toho and Alphaboat are collaborating with Japanese pop culture news website Tokyo Otaku Mode to bring the contest to international creators. The new theme is "With Japan!" and participants are asked to create an original character based on this. Participants must create a 3-minute explanation video of their character. There are no boundaries to how videos can be created―it can be in the form of a presentation by the creators themselves, a short animation, and so on. All submissions that successfully pass the first round will be posted onto the official GEMSTONE YouTube channel. Finalists will have the opportunity to participate in the official ceremony held at Anime NYC. They will receive a cash prize of 1 million yen and get to develop a project alongside Toho, AlphaBoat and Tokyo Otaku Mode. Sanrio's popular character Hello Kitty has teamed up with French fictional character duo Lisa and Gaspard to release a line of merchandise at Sanrio shops, Sanrio corners of department stores and the official Sanrio online shop. These characters first collaborated in September 2017 with the announcement of a selection of merchandise with oil painting designs. This collection was released in Japan in January 2018. Their second collaboration was the creation of 7 new oil paintings along with an original picture book which was published by French publisher Hachette Livre in January this year.
