You can’t make it through the Japanese winter without eating hot pot. There are so many different kinds of hot pot from traditional local hot pot to hybrid hot pot which has luxury foods. Shabu shabu is the hot pot that you can enjoy no matter its hot or cold weather through the year. I would like to introduce some of Shabu shabu restaurant that is known broadly as typical Japanese food being said “you can enjoy the Japanese food freely” and “great cost performance.”
The first restaurant that I want to introduce is “Moo Moo Paradise Kabuki-cho main store” which is mostly popular among young people. The first store started in Kabuki-cho in 1993, and now there are forty branches all over the world. Last year, they remodeled the Kabuki-cho branches, and made it a more chic atmosphere. They slice the meat right before they serve. The soup stock for shabu shabu is extracted from exclusive oxtails. They chose organic ponzu and sesame dressing for the dipping sauce. They are being very particular about their foods that they serve.
It is also unique that they serve fresh vegetables which they get from contracted farmers putting on the wagon. There are nappa cabbages, potherb mustards, lettuces, kujo-negi, paprika and also mini tomatoes. It is surprising that the standard course menu which is all you can eat for meats and vegetables starts at only two thousand yen.
The second store is “Dashi-shabu Obanzai Okaka” which just opened in December. Their concept is “Eat dashi soup as much as you want.” When you sit on the table, the first thing they serve is fluffy bonito flakes. The special food that you must order at this restaurant is Dashi-shabu.(1,980yen) You put plenty bonito flakes on top of dashi soup stock in the pot, and dip the ingredients just for a second.
You can taste the rich flavor of dashi. If you want to add more meat, it cost 880yen, and soba noodle to finish up the soup cost 500yen. This is a really reasonable price, but the taste is proficient. It is one of the good things about shabu shabu that you can enjoy eating healthy food with your good friends. Feel free to enjoy the Japanese food cultures at the shabu shabu restaurants.

Japan’s largest sake event, TOKYO SAKE FESTIVAL 2022, will run from October 4 until October 6 at the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building’s Triangle Square. The event’s aim is to make sake more mainstream around the world, with the first festival taking place in 2020.
