Kyary Pamyu Pamyu parties on stage with Yasutaka Nakata for her special birthday event!

31.January.2017 | MUSIC

Japanese pop princess Kyary Pamyu Pamyu celebrated her 24th birthday on Saturday January 28th for the release of her split single with Nakata Yasutaka at “ASOBINITE!!! -KYARY PAMYU PAMYU BIRTHDAY SPECIAL- YSTK×KPP CLUB EDITION.” The gig was the club edition and a continuation of their two-man live tour “~SPECIAL DJ×LIVE ZEPP TOUR 2016~『YSTK×KPP』” which was held in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka in November last year, and proved to be a  very special live performance indeed.

The stage set-up for Kyary and Yasutaka’s set began just before 2am, which received a welcoming reception from the crowd. Once 2am hit, this special show created exclusively for the event began: Yasutaka Nakata opened with CAPSULE’s “Dancing Planet (remix feat. VERBAL),” receiving huge cheers from the audience. This was followed up with CAPSULE’s “Hero,” which the fans loved.

Just when the tension in the room reached its peak, the birthday girl herself Kyary Pamyu Pamyu stepped out onto the stage dolled up in a red dress to perform “CANDY CANDY <Remix Ver>,” driving the audience even more wild.

Following that was a fun performance of Yasutaka Nakata’s “Motor Force ft. KPP,” in which Kyary engaged with the crowd with some call and response – and Kyary herself was clearly having a lot of fun. And then came a very special mashup of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s “PON PON PON” and Perfume’s “Polyrhythm,” two artists both produced by Yasutaka Nakata himself. This is the kind of performance you can only hope to see at an amazing event like this. Fans waved their towels in the air in unison, creating a real sense of unity as the performance continued through the night.

After singing “Mondai Girl,” they paused for an interlude where the two of them spoke some banter. This is the 5th time Kyary has held a birthday event, beginning when she was 20. In line with this, Yasutaka Nakata congratulated Kyary, saying “Happy 24th Birthday! Let’s keep celebrating with this party every year!”

Kyary responded by talking about her ambitions for being 24, stating “My goals for becoming 24 are to make more friends and fans! I’m quite a reserved person, but I aim to interact with more people and make this a fun year!” Saying that, she then performed “Ninja Re Bang Bang,” as well as “Cherry Bon Bon” which is arguably her best song. Next on the set-list was Yasutaka Nakata’s “NANIMONO (feat. Kenshi Yonezu)” which was used as the theme song for the film of the same name, “Nanimono.” Kyary then chimed in again with “Invader Invader” and “Fashion Monster.”

Finishing up, Kyary said a heartfelt thanks to all of the fans that had come all the way to celebrate her birthday with her, “Thank you so much for coming! I am so, so happy!” The final song of the night was “Harajuku Iyahoi,” Kyary’s latest song which was released on January 18th this year. The song was met with huge cheers as Kyary and Yasutaka performed. It was an incredible night for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, who celebrated her birthday with a special live collaboration with Yasutaka Nakata, and with her fans, who lit up the floor for her special day.
