The classic, industry-shaking anime film Akira is getting a 4K Blu-ray remaster which is set to hit Japan on April 24, 2020. The film originally released in 1988 and went on to become one of the most influential works in Japanese animation history.

The original Akira manga was written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo. It was initially serialised in Young Magazine between 1982-1990. Otomo also directed the 1988 anime film adaptation. The film was subsequently released in the US, Europe, Asia and elsewhere around the world, and has since stood as a landmark in Japan’s anime history.
The Remaster Set includes both 4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray and ordinary Blu-ray discs. As well as remastered visuals, the sound has also been upgraded to 5.1 by sound director Tsutomu Ōhashi.
The set also comes with a a bonus disc featuring a documentary entitled “AKIRA SOUND MAKING 2019” which features interviews and talks with the sound director and cast, amongst other things.

Japanese fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger has announced a new luxury line entitled THE ONITSUKA. They have created a hybrid design combining formal shoes with sneakers that goes with a variety of styles, from suits to casual. The new PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO and GALLERY X housed inside Shibuya PARCO both aim to promote art and culture to the people of Tokyo. Decorating them as the opening exhibition is the "AKIRA ART OF WALL Katsuhiro Otomo × Kosuke Kawamura AKIRA ART EXHIBITION." This art wall is in fact a relocation of the AKIRA art wall that had existed at the infrastructure building site in Shibuya for almost two years. Parts of it had been damaged over time, and so has resurfaced at the new museum. The unmissable ART WALL is covered in illustrations from the legendary manga series AKIRA, which was written by manga author and film director Katsuhiro Otomo, who stands at the forefront of the manga scene in Japan. The opening exhibition is titled "AKIRA ART OF WALL Katsuhiro Otomo × Kosuke Kawamura AKIRA ART EXHIBITION" which will see an entire wall decorated in a collage of art by manga author and film director Katsuhiro Otomo and his legendary series AKIRA. It is a collaboration with collage artist Kosuke Kawamura. The art wall is in fact a relocation of the AKIRA art wall that has existed at the infrastructure building site in Shibuya for almost two years. An AKIRA collage is being set up around a reconstructed building at Shibuya PARCO. The art wall will also be available to purchase in the form of a giant B0-size calendar at GALLERY X BY PARCO in Shibuya to celebrate the coming year of 2019 - the same year in which AKIRA is set.
AKIRA is a manga series written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo that was serialised in Weekly Young Magazine from 1982 to 1990. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo and tells the story of the coming creature known as AKIRA which is both feared and prized for its potential to shake the recovering world.
