The four stores of “Pom Pom Purin Cafe” (Harajuku, Umeda, Yokohama, Nagoya/Sakae) which use the motif of Sanrio’s very popular character “Pom Pom Purin” will offer “Shaved Ice” that suits the summer season from July 3rd (Mon.) for a limited time offer!
“Sawayaka! Lemon no Nakayoshi Kakigori” is a sour, lemon-flavored shaved ice which has the look of Pom Pom Purin and has a unique texture. The taste is very fresh and it suits the hot summer season and the muffins sitting on top are made of yogurt ice. It looks so cute.
A big pudding “Pudding Yama de Purun♪ Pudding Kakigori” has a pudding inside the pudding-flavored shave ice with lots of thick caramel sauce on top of it. The shaved ice has a rich pudding flavor.
In addition, a limited-edition paper fan which won 1st place in the Pombassador event ballot will be offered to persons who eat/drink in the four stores of “Pom Pom Purin Cafe” during the event.

TANGO’s original shaved ice is popular every summer, and in 2022, customers can grab a bear-shaped treat made with brown sugar syrup and condensed milk. Strawberry Milk ~Rose Scented~ Made with fluffy ice and homemade strawberry sauce, this delectable treat is topped with condensed milk and smells like sweet roses. Inside, customers will find rose gelato and strawberry compote. Taiwanese Pineapple and Coconut This fluffy shaved ice is topped with coconut milk, Taiwanese pineapple, and a generous dollop of sweet sauce. The ginger adds a spicy accent, keeping it interesting until the final bite. Terrace Dining TANGO is attached to The Place of Toyo, a wedding hall overlooking Tokyo Tower. The shaved ice, available only during the summer, is made of natural ice that has been filtered and frozen slowly for 48 hours to create a fluffier texture. The results are in! The annual Sanrio Character Award tallies millions of votes to discover which of the company’s 450 characters is the fan favorite for the year. In 2022, nearly 26.5 million people cast their vote, totaling up to 124% of last year’s turnout.
Taking the top spot for the third year in a row is Cinnamoroll, almost reaching 3 million votes. The character is celebrating his 20th anniversary this year, so it’s fitting that he should take home the trophy! Pompompurin came in second. The adorable dog has been in the top three for the past eight years and managed to rack up nearly 2.4 million votes. Surprisingly, Kuromi came in third, surpassing her rival My Melody for the first time ever. This was also the first time in the history of the competition that Kuromi has ranked in the top three. Hangyodon ranked eighth, becoming the first new character in the top ten in 34 years. The fish character has been seeing increased popularity over the past year. Nara-based tea ceremony brand Saron is serving up a tasty treat perfect for the warm weather! White shaved ice with dark matcha topping is now available until mid-September, and guests are invited to adjust the taste by altering the amount of tea added. Lately, Nara has been experiencing a major shaved ice boom. Inspired by Himuro Shrine, known for housing a guardian deity of ice, the city introduces plenty of created recipes for the summer treats each year. The tea ceremony brand Saron was founded by Nakagawa Masashichi Shouten, in business since the Edo period–so it’s safe to say that the company knows what they’re talking about!
Guests can enjoy shaved ice made from pure Yamato ice, which is frozen for 72 hours, gently shaved, and topped with Nara’s Kasiya sweet bean paste, shiratama, agar, and condensed milk that has been boiled for four hours. To finish off this luxurious dish, guests can add koicha, a thick matcha tea with concentrated flavor and incredible sweetness and depth. Sanrio has announced the top 10 preliminary rankings for the 2022 Sanrio Character Awards! These results reflect those votes cast between April 8 and April 10.
The 2022 SANRIO FES, a one-day special event for Sanrio fans, will be held both in-person and online on Sunday, June 12. This will be the first time the event has been held in three years, and it will feature special panels with Sanrio characters, booths where fans can interact with their favorites, and plenty of other content to look forward to this summer. The first-place winner in the preliminary results is Cinnamoroll, who ranked #1 last year and is currently celebrating his 20th anniversary. Pompompurin, who ranked at #2 last year, is also coming in second this year, while Pochakko, who ranked at #3 last year, is in third. Sanrio dogs are absolutely dominating the competition! Kuromi, who managed to climb into the top five in 2021 for the first time in 11 years, is ranked fourth, while fan favorites Hello Kitty and My Melody also appear.
