Collaboration Between “Jingu Gaien Hanabi Taikai” Firework Festival & Anime “Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom?”

23.July.2017 | MUSIC / SPOT

The annual “Jingu Gaien Hanabi Taikai” firework festival will hold its 38th run on August 20th. A collaboration will be held in support of the event with the upcoming anime movie adaptation of “Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom?” set for release on August 18th.

The event is a long running and familiar firework festival held in the capital every year that also includes concert performances around the Yamanote Line. Many young artists who have performed at the concerts made their musical breakthrough thereafter. The line-up gathers much attention every year. Many things are planned for this year’s festival, including charity activities such as donations to charities for Tokyo Zen’ni Bank and around Shinjuku and Shibuya, as well as giving “toy fireworks” (like sparklers) to the children of Kumamoto Prefecture.

“Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom?” is based on the 1993 live action drama of the same name by film director Shunji Iwai. It is directed by acclaimed animator and director Akiyuki Shinbo (Monogatari series, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) with a screenplay written by Hitoshi Ohne. The new adaptation includes a line-up of fantastic voice actors including Suzu Hirose (Chihayafuru, Your Lie in April) and Masaki Suda (Assassination Classroom).

At the special after-concert which will be held at Meiji Jingu Sadium, there will be a special screening just for the firework event, with a live performance by DAOKO who performs the film’s main theme song.

・Comment from DAOKO

“I’ve loved fireworks ever since I was little. They sparkle, and every one of them looks different. I want to sing a song that fits with the night sky. And I want to put on a memorable performance. This year’s summer will surely be bright, just like a firework.”

No Japanese summer experience is complete without going to see fireworks. So why not take the opportunity to enjoy this special collaboration?
