The Mine City Tourism Association has announced a Christmas & Valentine’s Day event at Akiyoshido Cave, one of the largest limestone caves in Japan. The event will see the natural wonder illuminated by a number of colorful lights. The Christmas event will run from December 21 to 25, 2022, while the Valentine’s Day event will run from February 10 to 14, 2023.

Akiyoshido Cave is one of Yamaguchi Prefecture’s most popular tourist attractions. The interior will be decorated with colorful lights and unique soundscapes, creating a once-in-a-lifetime setting for visitors. These illuminations and sounds were directed by world-renowned lighting designer Motoko Ishii, known for her work on Tokyo Tower and the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge.

Godiva Japan has announced an exclusive collaboration with Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Valentine’s Day 2023! Products in the collection will be available in limited quantities and for a limited time starting January 6, 2023 at Godiva stores nationwide, Godiva Online, the Godiva cafe, and convenience stores nationwide.

Fans of chocolate and this beloved Nintendo Switch title can find unique assortments of tasty treats decorated with images of different characters and logos from the Nintendo Switch game. Certain bundles also come with an original pouch, and some assortments are only available at certain locations or at convenience stores nationwide. A total of six items will be available.

To celebrate the return of Urusei Yatsura after 36 long years, a themed cafe will be coming to four cities in Japan for a limited time! The first cafe will open on December 1, 2022. 

Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi that ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1978 until 1987. An anime series aired in 1981 and became a massive hit with audiences, and understandably, it is still loved by anime and manga fans today.

The cafe features newly-drawn illustrations of six main characters including Ataru Moroboshi, Lum, and Ten.

From October 22, 2022 until January 15, 2023, the Sumikko Gurashi Studio Park Hide-and-Seek event is happening at Toei Kyoto Studio Park. During the event, guests are tasked with exploring the venue for hidden Sumikko characters. After finding them, they must write down the keywords on a special sheet in order to win a prize. Japanese sneaker brand Onitsuka Tiger has announced a new collaboration with the anime series Urusei Yatsura. Along with the release of the new crossover items, a special video has been created just for the collab.

The remake of Urusei Yatsura began airing on October 13, and many of these new apparel items feature everyone’s favorite characters. 

During the first episode of the series, Ataru Moroboshi is seen wearing the iconic MEXICO 66 sneakers made by Onitsuka Tiger while playing a game of tag.

In the third episode, Lum is seen wearing an original pair of sneakers based on the brand’s unique DELECITY design.

To commemorate the collaboration, Onitsuka Tiger and the production team at David Animation teamed up to create a special movie with a completely original story and newly drawn visuals. In the video, fans can see the main characters Ataru and Lum shopping at an Onitsuka Tiger store in Neo Shibuya. 

Of course, those familiar with the series will know that things won’t go smoothly. 

Three unique collaboration items will be available to purchase in limited quantities starting on October 29 at select stores and online. 

The tiger-patterned DELECITY sneakers will be limited to 700 pairs and will be available to purchase in 15 countries around the world. Sadly, the sweatshirt and bag will only be available in Japan.

From November 12, 2022, until April 2, 2023, visitors to Lake Sagami Pleasure Forest in Kanagawa Prefecture will be able to enjoy an incredible light-up event featuring Sumikko Gurashi characters! The outdoor resort is only an hour from Tokyo and won’t disappoint.

A World First! Illuminated Sumikko Gurashi Area

Visitors can enjoy riding the 250-meter-long Rainbow Lift for an aerial walk above the millions of lights. The adorable Sumikko Gurashi characters will be waiting for guests in a special themed area.

The event will also offer goods decorated with newly-drawn art inspired by the Lake Sagami lights, with Sumikko and her friends enjoying the show. From August 6 until August 28, the handmade donut shop Floresta will be offering donuts inspired by characters from Sumikko Gurashi! These adorable treats will be available at Floresta locations and online.

For the first half of the event period, fans will be able to get two adorable donut and donut hole pairings featuring Neko & Zassou and Shirokuma & Furoshiki. During the second half, donut holes shaped like Tonkatsu and Ebifurai no Shippo will be on sale.

The characters of Sumikko Gurashi are celebrating an incredible decade! A 10th-anniversary cafe will open in Tokyo on July 1 and in Osaka on July 22 for a limited time.

Sumikko Gurashi characters have become popular with children and adults alike. Anyone who enjoys cute goods has likely been aware of these little critters as they’ve continued to become a global phenomenon. In November 2021, the second Sumikko Gurashi film premiered to celebrate the franchise’s 10th anniversary, pulling in over a million viewers.

American music-themed restaurant Hard Rock Cafe has locations across Japan, and the Ueno location will soon be selling limited edition pins featuring Ueno Zoo’s famous giant pandas! Two designs will be available: one celebrating the panda’s birthdays and one commemorating Xiang Xiang’s return to China this December. Each pin will release in limited quantities of 500.
