ASICS Japan are opening the “world’s first” shop specialising in Onitsuka Tiger’s “NIPPON MADE” brand. “Onitsuka Tiger Omotesando NIPPON MADE” will open its doors on September 29th.
“NIPPON MADE” is a Japanese shoe line created by Onitsuka Tiger in 2008. The collection specialises in Japanese-made shoes with everything, down to the stitching and dyeing, being made in Japan. Each and every shoe is made with excellent Japanese craftsmanship. While pursuing to create the highest quality made-in-Japan shoe, the NIPPON MADE collection is also retro and stylish. The brand uses traditional Japanese craftsmanship as the model when producing the shoes. NIPPON MADE maintains its originality and is popular both in Japan and overseas. The brand has even collaborated with top designers.
“Onitsuka Tiger Omotesando NIPPON MADE” will open in next to the flagship store “Onitsuka Tiger” situated behind “Omotesando Hills,” a landmark shopping complex in Harajuku. The shop will sell “NIPPON MADE” products from shoes to apparel and accessories.
To celebrate the opening of the shop, 250 pairs of “MEXICO 66 DELUXE” limited edition shoes will be sold with various models printed on the uppers. MEXICO 66 DELUXE is one of the many representative shoes of the brand and is also “NIPPON MADE.”
The shop has also taken in the key colours from their “NIPPON MADE” collection for their “JapanｘMode” design concept. The interor of the shop is white and the carpet is red making it look like a gallery. The ceiling and facade also have louvers to help complete that traditional-modern Japanese look.

The second Tabekko Doubutsu Cafe Stand event opened in Omotesando on November 1, 2022. Paying homage to the classic snack first released in 1978, the cafe features a number of tasty snacks inspired by the thin animal-shaped cookies popular around the world. This second event will run through January 9, 2023. Reservations are required, and many dates were completely sold out prior to the event’s start date, particularly on weekends. We decided to visit, anxious to see what the fuss is all about.
We were first shocked to see the popular animals enjoying oden! Original goods featuring the characters enjoying the quintessential Japanese winter dish are only available at the cafe. From acrylic keychains to figures, visitors can snag some adorable merchandise to commemorate their trip to the exclusive event. Why not snag some items that would be useful on a daily basis, like a notebook or an apron? For food, visitors can snag a special Oden Set and Chinese Dumplings, both perfect for the winter. The oden features popular ingredients like egg, daikon, fish cake, and mochikinchaku, each branded with the popular animal characters. Drinks include soy milk, green tea milk, and milk tea. In addition to the exclusive Lion Cake which is limited to 25 servings a day, guests can find chocolate bananas and other sweets on the menu, including a Sweets Set limited to those reserving special seats at the venue. For every ¥1,000 spent on food and drink items, customers will receive one Tabekko Doubutsu trading card! The exhibition space is a must-see for fans of this legendary snack, filled with rare works including an adorable and very colorful print of every animal holding a bowl of oden. Of course, a photo spot has been set up for visitors to take some prime shots for social media! Don’t miss the animal meet and greet, which is making its triumphant return from the last event! Japanese sneaker brand Onitsuka Tiger has announced a new collaboration with the anime series Urusei Yatsura. Along with the release of the new crossover items, a special video has been created just for the collab. The remake of Urusei Yatsura began airing on October 13, and many of these new apparel items feature everyone’s favorite characters. During the first episode of the series, Ataru Moroboshi is seen wearing the iconic MEXICO 66 sneakers made by Onitsuka Tiger while playing a game of tag. In the third episode, Lum is seen wearing an original pair of sneakers based on the brand’s unique DELECITY design.
*From Episode 1 "Young Love on the Run / Between a Rock and a Hard Place" To commemorate the collaboration, Onitsuka Tiger and the production team at David Animation teamed up to create a special movie with a completely original story and newly drawn visuals. In the video, fans can see the main characters Ataru and Lum shopping at an Onitsuka Tiger store in Neo Shibuya. Of course, those familiar with the series will know that things won’t go smoothly. Burberry has announced a collaboration with the popular art manga Blue Period! The unlikely pair will team up on an original story featuring a new character Lola, who is an anthropomorphic version of Burberry’s iconic Lola bag designed by Riccardo Tisci. The Strings Omotesando will hold the Violet Masquerade sweets buffet at GRAMERCY HOUSE, a banquet venue on the second floor, on select dates from September 7 until October 27, 2022. Guests can enjoy a selection of desserts featuring chestnuts, grapes, and other autumn treats in calming violet space. The event will feature jewel-like tarts lavishly decorated with figs and grapes, strawberry cheesecake inspired by a courtly flower garden, and lemon mousse shaped like a fanciful headdress. Street Fighter 6, the next installment of the classic Capcom fighting series, is teaming up with Japanese shoe company Onitsuka Tiger. This marks the second collaboration between Capcom and Onitsuka Tiger, following the release of the Street Fighter V Arcade Edition collab shoes in 2019. The two are committed to impacting culture and feel strong ties to their Japanese roots, honoring the classic ways while being inspired by modern style.
New visuals of Chun-Li and Kimberly, a new character scheduled to appear in Street Fighter 6, have been created for the collaboration. In this tag team featuring an old and new character, Chun-Li wears Onitsuka Tiger's iconic MEXICO 66 model shoes, while Kimberly wears the DELECITY model, combining the essence of classic kicks with the spirit of the here and now. A special T-shirt has also been created featuring these new visuals, so check out the Capcom online store eCAPCOM or visit the Capcom stores in Tokyo or Osaka to snag one. In addition, Onitsuka Tiger plans to sell collaborative items in the first half of 2023, featuring original visuals of Chun-Li and Kimberly drawn by Thai cartoonist Wisut Ponnimit.
