TWICE Combine Animation & Live Action in New Music Video “Candy Pop”

14.January.2018 | MUSIC

Asia’s number one girls group TWICE have just released the music video to their forthcoming new single Candy Pop, set to hit shelves in Japan on February 7th.

The South Korean pop group released their first Japanese album #TWICE in June last year and has since sold over 300,000 copies. Their single One More Time, which was their first original song to be sung in Japanese, crowned the Oricon Weekly Charts at number one, selling over 210,000 copies. It sold more units in its first week than any other release in 2017, and the group made history by becoming the first overseas artist to rank number one in the first week with a first single.

One More Time was simultaneously released worldwide on iTunes and topped the album charts at number one in Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Panama. It also made it into the top 10 in other countries including Macau, Chile and Cambodia.

“Candy Pop” Official Music Video

The music video was created by Japanese anime director Takahiko Kyogoku and South Korean film creators. It’s a cute and colourful combination of animation and live action that was conceived by JYP Entertainment’s representative producer J.Y. Park. Director Takahiki Kyogoku brought to life the TWICE members’ dancing in an adorable anime style. The song is fast-paced, and the dance is difficult, but the members’ dancing both in their animated forms and real forms is kawaii and endearing the entire time.

Particular attention was paid to the scenes where the anime versions of TWICE transform into their real-life versions. Be sure to take in those impressive scenes, made possible in collaboration with an anime director and film directors. They have created fantastic world that combines 2D animation, 3D animation and live action, something unprecedented in a music video. A hand-drawn illustration by TWICE member Chaeyoung also makes an appearance. She blends right into the world of the candy kingdom, so be sure to keep an eye out for her.

Candy Pop is available to purchase on its own across digital music platforms. Be sure to check it out along with the music video.

A themed café titled TWICE Candy Pop CAFÉ recreating the world of Candy Pop will open in Tokyo and Osaka from February 1st for a limited period. More details will be announced soon, so stay tuned.
