Hoshino Resort Aomoriya is a hotel where you can fully experience the culture of Aomori. From April 6th to May 31st, the residence will hold an event titled “Haru no Kirokaro Sanpo”.

This year, 3 new flower arrangement displays are being introduced to the resort using traditional Aomori handicrafts. The displays are also designed for you to enjoy a peaceful stroll. “Wadasa no Kadou” will use the same technique used for the nebuta floats at Tohoku Sandai Matsuri to create the image of flowers from Japanese umbrellas. “Neputa no Kadou” is an arrangement that was created by artists from the Hirosaki Neputa Festival. “Akari no Kadou” will use traditional “Tsugaru Kanyama-yaki” pottery to create tranquil illuminations.
Once the chilly days of Aomori’s springtime have passed, flowers will bloom at the end of April. To experience the spring even more, traditional Aomori crafts will be used where the flowers of nature bloom too. Japanese umbrellas creating the image of apple flowers will be set up, as well as hanging lanterns with flower patterns and designs, illuminating Aomoriya.
“Wadasa no Kadou”
Japanese umbrella arrangements will laid out with apple flowers using a technique called roubiki that is used when making nebuta floats. The lights will be transparent from the wax sections, highlighting the colours even more.
“Neputa no Kadou”
A design created by artists from the Hirosaki Neputa Festival will be set up and illuminate. To make it three-dimensional, these artisans’ work will mix together ink and dazzling colours before being lit up.
“Akari no Kadou”
The hanging lanterns will be made of traditional “Tsugaru Kanayama-yaki,” a type of pottery. The illuminations and patterns will be original designs related to Aomori, including the apple, nebuta, and yawatauma.

Hoshinoya Tokyo, a traditional ryokan in Otemachi, has announced the New Year’s Kabuki Plan, a two-day, one-night stay from January 5 until January 7, 2023. During the Edo Period, citizens enjoyed watching Kabuki plays during the New Year’s holidays, often sipping tea at connected teahouses. Guests are invited to relax in the Ochanoma (Living Room) Lounge, decorated to look like a traditional teahouse with fans, ukiyo-e prints, and formal curtains. Hanabiramochi, or rice cakes with flower petals, will be served with green tea. These rice cakes are said to date back to the New Year’s tradition of eating hard foods like daikon and rice cakes in the hopes of prolonging one’s life. At theater teahouses in the Edo period, sake, snacks, and desserts were served one after another. During this special event, a menu inspired by this practice and prepared by Hoshinoya Tokyo Executive Chef Noriyuki Hamada will be served! Soba noodles were often served after a play in the past. Inspired by this tradition, Mont Blanc made with chestnut paste and sponge cake will be served up to look like this popular dish. Paired with a dessert wine aged in oak barrels, the sweet will be served in a traditional lacquerware basket. Guests will be taken on an Edo-style tour on their way to the Kabuki-za Theater. Passing through the Nihonbashi area, the first stop will be the Fukutoku Shrine. It’s said that Hidetada Tokugawa paid a visit to and praised the shrine on New Year’s Day in 1614. The next shrine on the docket, Hodo Inari Jinja, was enshrined in Edo Castle during the Edo period to protect the heir to the Tokugawa family. It’s said that the shrine provides blessings for child rearing, matchmaking, and business prosperity. From November 11 until December 25, 2022, Roppongi Hills Christmas will cover Tokyo in glittering lights once again. The Keyakizaka Lights, one of Tokyo’s most popular winter attractions, will also take place in 2022, with the 400-meter-long Keyakizaka street covered in over 800,000 blue and white LED lights. For the first time in three years, the Mohri Garden will be covered in lights as well. The annual Christmas market will invite guests to experience an authentic German Christmas, and Christmas cakes and gourmet food unique to Roppongi Hills will be for sale. The Roppongi Hills Christmas event utilizes LED lights and has done so since the first event was held in 2003. Clean power will be used again this year, and the lights will be switched on from 5 PM until 11 PM each night.

Japanese creative company NAKED will hold a Night Walk event at Zuiganji Temple in Matsushima, located near one of the top three most scenic spots in Japan. The event will run from October 29 until November 23, 2022. The NAKED Night Walk was created to revitalize hot spring resorts and other tourist spots during the pandemic. This special event will bring the illuminated experience to Zuiganji Temple, one of the Tohoku Region’s most famous Zen temples. Guests will be invited to carry beautiful lanterns around the grounds, maintaining social distancing while enjoying the cool evening weather. These lanterns will cast one of three unique designs onto the ground below–a starry sky, a camellia flower, or a lotus.
Guests can also enjoy NAKED’s Flower Fortune Telling, pulling unique paper flowers from a massive wall, with each holding a personalized fortune. These flowers can then be tied to a nearby tree to further spread NAKED’s art. You can also take home your flower as a souvenir! The event will only run for a limited time.
