2017 marks 10 years for Seiko Oomori’s music career. The Japanese singer-songwriter shows no sign of slowing down as she continues to soar through the music scene, having released her third album “kitixxxgaia” back in March this year. With her new record in hand, Seiko Oomori has begun a new Japan tour entitled 2017 LIVE TOUR “kitixxxgaia”. The tour kicked off on June 2^nd at Sendai’s Rensa.

Joining Seiko Oomori on this tour is the indispensable and familiar line-up of A-chan (Kinoko Teikoku, Guitar), Kenji Hatakeyama (H MOUNTAINS, Guitar), Eramegumi (Masakita 89, Bass), Kenta Sakurai (Guitar, Percussion, etc), Pierre Nakano (Ling Tosite Sigure, Drums), and sugarbeans (Tommy & Sammy).

 

The stage was decorated with a majestic backdrop of the artwork from Seiko Oomori’s new album. Seiko and the band members were ebullient in their performance from the get go. The crowd joined in the fun with their indomitable excitement. The feeling in the room between the fans and Seiko was one of unshakeable unity as the performance began with tracks from “kitixxxgaia.”

As the night went on, Seiko went on to perform the ballad track “Orionza,” singing in cheery unison with the crowd. Seiko Oomori proves once again during this song that her live shows are packed full of emotion thanks to the phantasmagoric tone of the music provided by the band such as the guitar riffs, as well as Seiko’s acapella, and the unified singing of everybody watching that reverberated through the room, all of which combined to bring tears to the fans’ eyes.

A beautiful moment was born during that blissful air as Seiko let an elementary school girl play her guitar that she had been playing. It was also an unexpected song to be performed for one of Seiko’s concerts, so she defied people’s expectations for a good cause.

 

Seiko Oomori’s tour will continue until July 20^th where it will conclude in Tokyo at ZEPP Diver City. There’s plenty more singing from Seiko to be heard and music from the band to enjoy during this tour. We look forward to seeing her grow even more by the end of it.

It was also announced that Seiko will release a brand-new single on August 9^th which will be performed throughout her tour. We can expect to see plenty more from her as she shows no sign of letting up. The female acoustic singer songwriter, Seiko Omori, started getting popular because of her aggressive live performance and the music videos which express a girl’s real ugly emotions. She is a rare artist who appeared in both “FUJIROCK FESTIVAL” and “Tokyo Idol Fes.” She started coming to prominence by interviewing with an American media VICE called “noisey.”

She is doing the project titled “Wonder Romance Three Good Fortunes” that releases singles for three months in a row starting in August. The first one is both A-side single contains “Pink Methuselah” and “Gutto Kuru Summer” that those are theme songs for the web cartoon called “Nigeneko Jure” which she also does voice actress as the main character, Jure.  It ends up becoming a catchy girl’s pop music collaborated with Kenta Sakurai, a music producer, who worked with Seiko Omori before on You Kikkawa’s song called “Ha wo Kuishibare!”, and also took part in creating Seiko Omori’s newest album called “TOKYO BLACK HOLE.” Kenta Sakurai is talented with arranging music such as putting irregular meter on Japanese idol group’s songs. It is worth checking how these two’s music chemistry will be this time.

 

This time, we interviewed with her in August which was the time she released the first singles of her project. We asked about her idea of the artist that she is trying to be.

 

■First of all, can you give me some reasons why you wanted to release singles three months in a row?

 

We named the project “Wonder Romance Three Good Fortunes” after the horse racing’s technical term, “Trio double”. We changed the Chinese character of “Trio double” to “Triple Fortunes”, but it is the same sound. You don’t know if you ever could win the race, but if you could win the race, it is “Fortunes”, so we put “onder romance” in front.  Three months is just because it is coming from “Trio double”. I have some friends who I got to know through music. I think it is amazing that we can build many relationships through music.

 

■What is the subject of this series of singles that you are releasing?

 

As I said earlier, we can build connections through music. I would like to work with people who I got inspirations. I want people to know my music has changed a little bit better because of their arrangement. I want to say out loud that I worked with this person. I would love to enjoy the next three months interacting with people by creating many songs.

 

■Did you think about asking Kenta Sakura to do the music arrangement of “Pink Methuselah” from the beginning?

 

Yes. When I first got this offer and met the animation creator, t.o.L, I was watching hide’s (hide is a Japanese popular musician who died in 1998.) documentary DVD in which t.o.L was working on the cartoon in that movie. The documentary movie was talking about that hide puts importance on brush up young talented kids’ skills to create music. And then, I was like “If he was still alive, he would love to listen to Kenta Sakurai’s music.”  I felt connections between them after that.

 

■You are the voice actress for the main character, Jure, in the cartoon called “Nigeneko Jure” Did you write lyrics based on this cartoon?

 

I really liked t.o.L’s previous work called “TAMALA2010 a punk cat in space.” There is a funny cat that has a sharp tongue appearing in that show. So I said that I wanted to do this work by myself. I started writing lyrics after I read t.o.L’s script deeply, and interpreted the atmosphere of this cartoon.

 

■Did you ask anything specific about the music arrangement to Mr.Sakurai?

 

When I read Jure’s scripts, I got same inspiration from the monsters which appear in the cartoon called “Puella Magi Madoka Magica.”  These monsters that appear when the main characters go to different-dimension worlds are not only scary but also strange, cute, funny and poisonous-looking. I got the idea from these monsters like “I have to fight no matter how I lose everything, but fighting with those monsters also means escaping from this world.”

 

■Were you able to share that idea with Mr.Sakurai easily?

 

I sent many pictures of those monsters to Mr.Sakurai, and he also likes “Madoka Magica,” so he was like “OK, I understand.” I also sent some songs which has the same atmosphere of my images.  The verses of this song are singing about something like a fairy tale or an allegory. These kind of structures’ songs remind me of the songs of a band called “BUMP OF CHIKEN.”

■The BUMP OF CHIKEN’s songs are a familiar plot with Japanese music listeners.

 

I worked pretty hard to make same plot as BUMP OF CHIKEN’s songs. But Mr.Sakurai told me that “the course part should sound more like yours, not like BUMP OF CHIKEN’s.”

 

■It ends up becoming a characteristic song which contains irregular meter and modulations by Sakurai’s arrangement.

 

I think so too. People say that “this song sounds like Seiko Omori’s, but it also sounds like Kenta Sakurai” every time we worked together. It is pretty easy to recognize who made the songs.

 

■Something like You Kikkawa’s “Ha wo Kuishibare!”

 

It is being told that the song we made for You Kikkawa sounds like Seiko Omori’s song, but it also sounds like Kenta Sakurai’s. It is pretty amazing that people can tell whose sound is this. I didn’t think I had my own sound, because I ask other people for music arrangements.  I wasn’t being particular about the songs as long as I could create good melodies. So I didn’t think I had my style in music. It makes me happy that people can recognize my style in music.

 

■You sure have your own style in music. I think you can widen your appeal as a music creator by branding your style in music.

She started domestic concert tours, and will release a single called “POSITIVE STRESS” composed by Tetsuya Komuro as the second project of “Wonder Romance Three Good Fortunes” on Wednesday, October 26th. She raised prominence from both rock music industry and Japanese idol industry. She is also highly expected to succeed in live concerts and tours outside of the country.
